TeamSpeak 2 (not 3) is what we use to talk to each other while gaming, or just a quick chat. The audio quality is very clear and full-bodied. TeamSpeak 2 is free. It's always been free for both servers and clients.

However, if you go to the TeamSpeak website, they push TS3 on you, not 2. You can get TS2 off their website, but they buried it so deep that it's hard to find.

Why do we use TS2 instead of 3? Here's why. A few years ago, the people at TeamSpeak were a pragmatic and benevolent group. But then they got greedy and morphed into money-mongers. Understandable - but they changed to a different server-model so they could charge money for server-licenses, yet there was no improvement in TeamSpeak functionality. They also made it so that server-configuration was a complicated, technical, basket-case! Although I have a license for TS3, I won't run a TS3 server because of it's complexity. In terms of audio quality, it is no better than TS2. So screw TS3!

Click here to get the TS2 client.

Instructions are in the Readme.txt file, which are repeated here:

Execute the ts2_client_rc2_2032.exe file to install TeamSpeak.

To bring it up to version, just plop the included TeamSpeak.exe file into the TeamSpeak installation directory, overwriting the one that's already there. The typical installation directory (Win 7) is:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Teamspeak2_RC2
You're done.

It's easiest to use the Connection->Connect pull-down menu instead of the Quick Connect. That's because it stores all the connection parameters permanently, and will allow it to auto-reconnect (check the box) if you temporarily lose the connection for some reason.

Right-Click on Servers in the left pane, select Add Server, and give it a name to identify that particular server.

In the right pane, fill in Server Address with an IP or URL, give yourself a Nickname (use your game-name), select the Anonymous radio button (not Registered), leave the Login Name blank, check the Auto-Reconnect box, and enter the Server's password, if any.

Leave everything else blank and just click the Connect button.

If you want to use the Quick Connect, run your TeamSpeak client, select Connection, then Quick Connect, then enter:
    Server address: url-to-the-server
    Nickname: any-name-you-want
    Login Name: leave blank
Password: the server's password, if any.
