Men of War Demo

I'd rather shoot this ammo than carry it!

Men of War Demo

Hello Gentlemen ... hello jeff.

I have been hooked on Men of War.

there is a demo out
http://www.gamedemo.com/warehouse/games/Games/M/Men-of-War/index.html
I have no idea how the demo is... so I can't comment. (it is only single player)

But the Full version Single player is intense. Nearly impossible even on easy, you are usually out gunned (making the need to steal weapons from the bad guys a requirement) and severely out manned. However you can play those levels coop as well and I have had success playing with random guys.
this is NOT company of heroes where you build up a massive force, press click and your done. You know those moments in coh where you can see the tide turn, this happens ever few minutes in Men of War.

Some highlights that i love.
-You can target specific regions of enemy tanks ie. the treads disable them burn out the bad guys, fix it and steal it.
- you can (almost must) savage nearly everything from the dead enemies and use it against them. (helmets, bullets, other weapons, health packs, Eric's balls... oh wait never mind they are gone)
- terrain and cover actually mean something. You need to really watch and position your guys and cover their flanks with other guys. (live action chess match)
- all holly hell battles that cause massive damage... cool as hell. You can blow up and/or burn almost everything.
- the vehicles run out of gas(you can resupply them)... so if someone is launching an assault on your base, taking out the supply lines is a tactical plan.

Negatives - the cut scene voice acting is bad... but the game play way, way makes up for it. and you usually can skip pass it.

Getting use to-s
- you need to control the camera as much as the action. eventually I found a grove where I would only have to change camera angles depending on the assault. (I would keep a quartering forward facing view to positions guys with ease) then sometimes drop down to eye level to see what they see (kewl as hell)
- you need to get a handle on the quick keys... like reload, heal,
- the squad structure creation method is totally different then coh

Summary:
It is sort of a cross between RTS and a FPS where you control each player. Think of it as playing COD but from an over head perspective and you have to tell every member of the team what to do... kinda like what Rob does only it's a game.

let me know if you get the full version.

Hello Newman, err, Kevin.

Kramer says it might use Steam. Does it use Steam?

The following CoH-versus-MoW comparison is what gives me reservations, taken from the MoW forums:
I've played CoH for quite some time and I love it. I'm just starting to get into MoW now but wow I thought CoH had a huge learning curve but it's nothing compared to this. I know it will get easier with time but there's just too much micro needed in MoW. Example: I have 20 men and one picks up some nades, later I need to throw a nade at the enemy in a house but it takes me 5 minutes of searching through each man to find out which one has them.
I just find that I haven't got time to think about tactics and enjoy the game because of the intense micro needed to look after 30+ units, so after about 20 minutes I give up and go back to my comfortable CoH.

It uses GameSpy.
You need a Gamyspy Account to play online.

And without a doubt it is tougher than COH but to me it offers more rewards for it's toughness.

While the nade story probably is true. I can't figure out why the guy wouldn't outfit all his guys with nades. or grab nades of someone he killed or race his supply truck up to his nearest guy and outfit him with nades or since the guy in the building has a limited view.. leave him alone or flank him. Or call in flame throwers and burn the building to the ground. or drive a tank through the building or quitely wait outside and knife the guys ass when he comes out.

This is not an easy game to play but it is fun as hell to play.
check out the demo... and remember. The single player is nearly impossible to play alone. I am doing it but I am doing it slowly. You'll need to master working the camera and knowing the hotkeys.

I am totally hooked, just wondering if the old guys I play with cried this much when the phone company took away their rotary phone and put in touch tone... and this new digital TV requirement ... making you work TWO clickers now... OH THE HORROR.

Drink your prune juice, grow a couple and check out this demo.

I must admit, MOw does have a larger learning curve as compared to COH. Once you start to get the hang of it, one starts to see how good the game is. It adds a more realistic area to a RTS. One has to be conscience of ammo, what weapons each unit has and numerous other things. At first I felt it was just too much to make the game enjoyable. Now playing it for awhile, it becomes second nature on most of it and is a non issue. It is far more challenging than COH and is harder to learn but is a good game once you take the time to learn it. If you don't like the time to learn all the game has to offer, then I wouldn't recommend it. It does require a large amount of Micro. And in bigger battles it can be a little overwhelming in the early stages of learning the game.
